As I drove up an old logging road toward this fire at 2 o'clock in the morning, I rounded a corner and a wall of flames visible through the trees greeted me. I thought to myself, "Maybe not the best idea you ever had if this isn't a slashburn like you assumed..." Fortunately it was. The size was immense - like three football fields side by side. The camera just could not capture the scope. The silhoutted people were obviously far back from the flames, but in the photo look like they are standing in the fire. Shot on Kodachrome 64 in 1993.
